In short, important choices and decisions will need to be made. Therefore, there is a need for guidance from the perspective of reliable improvement and cost.
Oil ring interacts with lubricant viscosity
To date, viscosity is an important attribute of process lubricants for process pump bearings. Generally, thicker oil films have better protection results for rolling bearings than thinner oils. For process pumps with rolling bearings, ISO grade 68 (VG 68) lubricants can withstand higher working loads than VG 32.
The problem is that the oil ring or baffle designed for the use of VG 32 does not work well on the highly viscous VG 68.
Oil rings usually work within the designed speed range and maintain immersion, ring concentricity, shaft system levelness and surface roughness of the contacting parts. In order to increase the service life and reduce friction losses, it is sometimes better to lubricate different bearings with different viscosity lubricant processes.
But what if these bearings share the same housing? Reliable pump users will need an optimization strategy, and knowledge related to lubricants will help.
Fortunately, the film thickness and strength properties of ISO 32 synthetic lubricants are close to VG 68 mineral oil.
Therefore, for many process pump process lubrication, the reliable VG 32 synthetic oil is well formulated by reliable personnel.
Of course, there are certain pump bearing or lubricant degradation issues, regardless of lubricant type. In that case, switching to good oils will not help.
